I’m living my life like a pawn.
always so willing to be cut down for the crown and ring.
no regret, no worries,
simple minded with a single goal.
yet never pausing to think if it’s my good they have in mind,
or simply their own.
Yet despite my fear, I marched into war
once more, unto the breach.
malignant fears, tremors through my veins
frightened that this war is my last.
armoured knowing, even in death
my duty lives on.
I live a pawn, toiling for a goal, not my own.
Yet in all my blood and sweat,
I never once know true glory.
For how does a pawn equate a king?
a king I never was, yet she sees royalty.
but royalty has it’s gaurds, and a pawn
only his armour.
The crown, the ring, such physical things
remind me that I’m just another soldier, another man
another cut in the belt, one more statistic.
for all my fears, my doubts, March into battle I shall,
No matter the cost, I shall return
not a pawn, nor corpse nor slave
but royalty.
a king, for my gaurds stand ready,
and you shall not hurt me.
just a short poem i wrote last night, i've been going through alot of stress lately, and i needed a vent. i'm afraid i leave myself too open to hurt, and it's only hurting more to realise how vulnerable i am to her.
